Neither Tyler Grey nor Michael Westen looked all that happy as they talked in an abandoned warehouse in Panama. Grey had already told Mike, Sam, Fiona and Jesse (all of whom were together in Panama) that Tom Card was the person behind both Anson and Nate's death as well as the three failed assassination attempts on all of them. Now Mike was upset that Grey wouldn't admit that Nate wasn't part of the deal and also didn't seem to be able to read Card's mind about what was going to happen next. Mike put the handcuffed Grey over the edge of a ledge and only Sam's physically pushing him back kept Mike from shooting. "Where I come from we do not execute prisoners," Sam told him "he's gonna get what he deserves but you're not killin' him in cold blood." That set Fiona off and it became a screaming argument between her and Mike and Sam and Jesse. "The job has changed," Jesse told her, "now we know that this doesn't end with him. Card was the one who was trying to take us out." Sam pointed out that Grey was their only play and killing him would be a mistake. Mike finally did agree – so slugged him instead. However, Fiona's screaming fit still needed to be answered: "how do we get back to Miami?" Mike called Madeline on her neighbor's cell phone saying he was her nephew. He tried to simply get her to find a hacker buddy of Sam's for help but nearly ran out of pay-phone-quarters with all her theatrics and interruptions, so finally broke down and told her that Card was the one who had Nate killed. That upset her even more because Card had called and wanted her to come back in to his office the next day. She finally, resolutely said "just tell me about this guy you want me to find."
The next day on the docks, a very flustered
Jack Dixon exclaimed to her
"listen lady, hacking into FAA records to erase a flight from Panama – that's crazy!" Even though she'd been treating Mike with distain, her "mommy" gene seemed to kick in and she explained that if Dixon didn't help and Mike got back, he'd kill him and if Mike didn't get back she would.
"Ok, lets erase this flight," he agreed. Unfortunately, Dixon's access person, his father's friend Albert, wasn't working that day so he told Madeline
"you're not listening to me crazy woman – I can't get into the computer room." She demanded that he tell her everything he know about Albert then went ahead and forced herself past and through the security guard pretending to be Albert's enraged wife (or something) looking for the guy's "love nest." She had the guard so flustered that he said he would show her every room if she would only leave. Dixon slipped in behind her and erased Michael's flight records to accomplish the task.
Sam completely struck out trying to find a pilot but Fiona had a shady one ask her to ride back to Houston with him.
"Does he know you've got friends," Sam asked her and she explained that she would tell him that piece of information tomorrow with a gun to his head. The plane was guarded by 13 men behind barbed wire. Fiona told them that when she got
Rico to open the doors they should run out and hop on. She explained to Jesse that if the guys with guns saw them they should just run faster. She did, and they did; but, when all the shooting started, Grey used the diversion to cut his bonds and roll off the plane. So, Michael followed and they were both captured by Rico's cousin:
Ramiro Vasquez, a ruthless drug-runner whose plane they had just stolen. While Mike and Grey were being man-handled and tied to a post inside Ramiro's cocaine processing facility, Fiona was explaining to a reluctant Rico that
"either you land this plan or I land this plane – and I don't know how to fly a plane!" Grey explained to Mike that he would rather deal with
"a businessman than some vigilante who's out for revenge." Ramiro got out his electric torture machine and demanded information. Mike told him that they didn't want his plane, or drugs and that Sam would be calling shortly to exchange it for them. He got shocked anyway. Grey initially wouldn't talk either so also got shocked.
Sam bought a junker car so he and Jesse could ride back to a phone but when they got there the phone was broken. They tried to get
Esteban to let them make a call and then offered to buy it for $20 but Esteban wanted $40. Just as Jesse was miserating that
"now they had to steal a phone from a 9-year-old kid" Sam offered to trade the broken million-dollar, experimental gun sight he still had in his pocket and they had a deal. Ramiro did agree to Sam's terms to get the plane back but Grey interjected an offer of his own
"let me walk and I'll get you your coke, your plane and a chance to kill the team that ripped you off." Mike got another shock. Grey showed Ramiro where the plane would have landed then got tied up again. Mike tried to discuss with him but it was clear that Grey completely was sold on the fact that his mission was
"eliminating four threats to national security." Card had shown him records that Mike had used Anson to undermine the entire intelligence establishment and the fool had believed it. There was infuriatingly nothing Mike could say to counter any of Grey's misguided opinions.
Madeline masked her "ice-cold hatred" with "motherly concern" when she met with Card. He showed his incredible skill at lying to her face and said there had been a
"glitch in communications" and wondered if she had heard from him. She said no. He tried baiting her with the (probable) lie that he had given his father a secret phone number when he was going away and tried to get her to admit that she had one. She said that when Michael had been away she used to wait for a postcard, letter or anything until she learned to live without them. That way she was never disappointed. Card assured her that everything was going to be OK. While Sam and the gang were waiting for Ramiro to call, Esteban called his buddy "Carlos" to say that there were angry men in the town looking for their plane. Fiona's plan was to stow away in the plane and let Ramiro take it. Sam and Jesse mined the road with some "MacGyver" stuff and Ramiro killed the guard who let them get away. Sam and Jesse were waiting when the plane, with Fiona in it, got back. Ramiro threatened the guards that if the plane wasn't re-packed and ready to fly in an hour they would be digging their own graves and then Rico with cutting off a finger for every ounce of coke that was missing. All that was just before Fiona popped out with her gun and threatened Rico that she
"was your only way of getting out of here in one piece." She cold-cocked a guard and let Sam and Jesse in the compound. Ramiro demanded Mike tell him more to capture the gang but Mike would only say that he had barely just met them a few months ago in order to steal the plane. He got more electricity and kicking's until Grey finally stopped Ramiro with an offer to
"track them down within an hour." But he said that he was through working on credit and wanted his cuffs off. Ramiro did agree but as soon as he was loose, Grey broke the guards neck, took his gun then told Ramiro he was "renegotiating" just before he shot him. When Mike asked why, Grey said that
"the guy who just took 15,000 volts to save his friends is not the guy I read about in that file."
The only plan they had now was to
"run like hell before they found Vasquez's body." Their way was blocked by men speaking Spanish and machine gun fire. He advised Mike that if they lived through it he should think about learning some Spanish. Sam shot some jet fuel down the alley and flamed the machine gun guys so Mike and Grey could escape. They all jumped back on board the plane and as Grey helped Sam back through the door, midst the gunfire, Sam asked him
"You gonna stay on the plane this time?" Rico flew them back to Miami where he could get free of his cousins influence. Mike told Grey that because he had saved his life he had bought the right to have a choice of whether or not he helped take down Card. Grey said he was sorry for taking the shot that killed Nate (even if he didn't actually use the word: "sorry.") Jesse wondered how they might dispose of a drug smugglers plane and Sam suggested that they owed
"my buddy Dixon. Maybe he can sell it on eBay." Madeline was waiting for them at the airport but Mike, back to his old secrecy, demanded that he and Fiona not tell her about Grey. When she asked Mike directly
"did you find the man you were looking for?" He replied
"not yet, but soon." She just turned and walked away without saying anything. Mike and Sam watched as Grey, wearing a wire, met with Card. He showed up an hour late and kept everything he said in "code" talking about "targets" and
"are you saying what I think you're saying?" Grey finally said point blank
"yea, Michael Westen is dead" and Card replied
"I'm proud of you kid."
